The duck hangs up the advertisement for his cleaning service on the wall, and the interest is tremendous

How to start a cleaning service from scratch in Finland?

Starting a new business, any business, is a daunting task that every entrepreneur faces at the beginning.

As someone who has successfully started and run a cleaning business, I'd like to share some proven ideas that can help you get started.

I've personally tested each of these ideas and have seen others replicate them with success.

I know some may wonder why I'd share these tips and create more competition for myself, but I believe that entrepreneurship is not for everyone.

Starting a business requires a certain level of courage and determination that not everyone possesses.

However, owning your own business can be a fulfilling and lucrative option for those who are willing to take the leap.

It's been my experience that owning my own business has been the best decision I've made, and I wouldn't want to go back to working for someone else.

So without further ado, let me share some ideas that can help you start your own cleaning business.

How to start local cleaning business with practically no money to put in?

1.Ask friends and acquaintances for customer referrals

If you know anyone personally in your local area who already has a cleaning business, it's a good idea to reach out to them.

Many skilled cleaners have more clients than they can handle and may be looking for someone to take on the overflow.

You can let them know that you're interested in any additional customers they can't accommodate. You could also consider sending an email to cleaners in your area who may be closing their business or looking to reduce their workload.

It's not uncommon for cleaners to retire, move, or decide to close their business for various reasons. In these cases, they may be happy to recommend someone to take over their clients.

We still receive offers like these and sometimes say yes to them. Best of all, there's no need for advertising as clients simply come to us through word-of-mouth recommendations.

2. Print simple ads and distribute them yourself

Printing black and white ads can be an inexpensive way to promote your cleaning business. Simply print your ads and deliver them to the areas where you want to find customers, especially areas close to your location.

Based on my experience, you can expect to gain one new customer for every 200-300 ads you distribute.

Recently, I printed 600 ads for my business for around 60-70 euros. When creating your ads, avoid mentioning that your business is new. Instead, focus on highlighting your experience in the cleaning industry.

Your potential customers care more about your ability to provide high-quality cleaning services than the age of your business.

In addition to experience, customers want to feel that they can trust you. This leads me to the next point...

3. Create a simple web page for your business

Creating a blog or simple website can be a great way to promote your cleaning business.

You don't need to spend a lot of money on web developers. In fact, you can create a website for free or spend just a small amount of money (around 10 euros per year) to have your own domain.

If you're not able to create a website yourself, consider reaching out to someone who can do it for free.

Alternatively, it's worth investing some time to learn how to create and maintain a simple website yourself, so that you can make changes as needed without having to pay someone else every time.

If you're a skilled writer, you can also use your blog or website to provide answers to frequently asked questions about your cleaning business.

Be sure to include your email address, phone number, and address where you're operating from. This will help build credibility and trust with potential customers.4. Sell your cleaning services little cheaper than others

I do not mean too cheap, but a bit cheaper. Check the prices in your area and make your prices known in your web page and advertising.

Do not go too down with your prices because it is suspicious and it draws bad customers and those you do not want.

4. Inquire about subcontracting opportunities with existing cleaning companies

Another option to consider when starting your cleaning business is to work as a subcontractor for an existing cleaning company. While it may not be the most profitable way to run your business in the long run, it could be a good option to consider initially.

As a subcontractor, you'll receive less money than you would if you were running your own business independently. This is because the primary cleaning company needs to make a profit as well.

However, be aware that some cleaning companies may try to offer you a very low price for your work, which may not be worth your time and effort.

While this may be an option for a short period of time, it's not recommended if you have other options available.

The tips I've shared above are based on my personal experience of starting and running a cleaning business. I've tried and tested all of them at different points in time, and I hope they'll be helpful to you as well.

5. Are you in need of bookkeeping or accounting services?

If you need help with accounting, I offer accounting services for small businesses in Finland.

My services cover all tax and bookkeeping requirements needed in Finland. Additionally, I can provide bookkeeping for any other small business you plan to start.

It's important to be careful with taxes and the tax office

In Finland, the tax office will always collect their money, so it's wise to have the necessary funds to pay your taxes on time.

I've assisted many English-speaking clients in starting their small businesses in Finland and continue to provide support for various tax and accounting issues.

My rates are very reasonable, typically ranging from 50-100 euros per month (+VAT 24%) for basic accounting for small businesses.

6. Would you like to increase your visibility and attract new customers?

If you're interested, I can also offer you the option of having your own dedicated page on my existing business website. This is a much more cost-effective option as it's completely free as long as you remain my customer.

Your page will be optimized for Google searches so that potential customers can easily find your local cleaning service.

This means that right from the beginning of your new business, you'll be able to reach thousands of monthly visitors who are interested in cleaning services.

Additionally, I can provide a link to your own website on the page.

If this is something you're interested in, just let me know what your needs are and we can discuss further.
